August 1 through August 16:
"The Cannibals"
by George Tabori, directed by Alison Christy.

George Tabori (who died in 2007 at the age of 93) is a Hungarian-born playwright and director, and a significant figures in 20th century theater. This dark, disturbing, and yet warmly human play, was the first play after World War Two to occur wholly in Auschwitz, where Tabori’s father died in 1944.

It is the story of two Auschwitz survivors who reunite 25 years later, and are joined by the children of those who perished. Together they re-enact the dinner party that determined all their fates. This epic story of history and memory, described by Tabori as a “horror farce”, uses a unique mix of psychodrama, revue, and tragi-comedy to examine the terrible choices these men were forced to make.

"The Cannibals" features Dax Anderson, Josh Campos, Katie Glaska, Caroline Hayes, Keith Kalinowski, David Legato, Lisa Melinn, Sandy Menzel, Linda Rabin-Hammell, Sean Paraventi, Rob Rose, Lauren Schafer, and Frannie Shepherd-Bates.

Michael McGettigan and the team at Fevered Egos TV present the conclusion to their original comedy set in the year 2012, chronicling the lives of five Corktown roommates. With no electricity, phones or gas, those who are lucky enough to find a job, find it laboring in the Detroit Salt Mine underneath the city. Equus.

Presented by The Abreact Theater, the cast for this production includes Alex Hill as Alan, Dan Morrison as Dysart, the psychiatrist, as well as Dave Schoen, Lisa Melinn, Dax Anderson, Katie Galazka, Dawn Bartley, and Mike Fiedler.

Religious zealotry, sexual deviance, violence, misplaced ideals and the confusion and perplexity of being looked to as savior in a mind that can not be saved, these are just a taste of what is in store for the audience of “Equus.” This Tony Award winning show follows the story of Alan Strang, a seventeen-year-old boy admitted to a state institution for stabbing the eyes out of six horses and the psychiatrist assigned to help discover what would inspire such a horrible act. This production promises to be hard to forget.

"This is how it goes...".
Neil Labute. November 9 through December 2, 2007. Remi Esordi [totally useless as] Director.

In his play “This is how it goes”, Neil Labute explores race, power, love and fear through an interracial love triangle that becomes more complex and revealing as this story of three fascinating characters unfolds.

A white Man returns to his small, Mid-western hometown and runs into his high school crush, Belinda, also Caucasian, who is now married to successful businessman Cody, a star athlete at the same high school, and African American. The spark between this Man and Belinda sets in motion a questioning of each character’s motives, both in the present and in their related past, and exposes underlying feelings of racism and deception. LaBute calls his play "…a meditation on truth (the many versions of it that we offer up to different people)…" and an exploration of "…how racism still affects all of us on a simple, daily level."

This production of “This is how it goes” features Stefan Mantyk, Mary Courie, Sean Rodriguez, and Keara Woods.

Bogosian 3: The Fundraiser
June 22, 23, 29, and 30 (2007) @ 8pm

The Abreact makes its move to The Zeitgeist with another installment of their signature evening of Eric Bogosian's monologues in "Bogosian 3: The Fundraiser", featuring Joel Mitchell, Mike Ishaq, Adam Barnowski, Chad Kushuba, and Andy Lindblom, and arranged and directed by The Abreact's co-founder Chuck Reynolds. Fully equipped with intensity and opinion, this show will disgust and enlighten you with the words of writer, director, and actor Eric Bogosian. These pieces are quick, powerful, and vicious, just the way we like it here. The program runs about an hour, and each night after the show a different band will round out the evening's festivities:

June 22: SHOE.
June 23: Bricktown Station
June 29: Hellen
June 30: Cowboy Messiah

This production is considered a welcoming to our new venue, and will double as a fund raiser for our upcoming production of "The Night of the Living Dead, The Musical" to be held at The Majestic Theatre in October 2007. Exciting! "The Penis Monologues" is free of charge, but donations are gladly accepted, after all it is a fund raiser, so come on down and get your theater on!!
